The Steelers are bringing him back

The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to be at a crossroads with Tyler Boyd.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were once thought to be the favorite to sign free agent wide receiver Tyler Boyd, returning the hometown hero to the city where he played high school and college football. However, after weeks of waiting, it appears that the two sides are not as close to reaching an agreement as previously thought.

After the speculation about Boyd joining the Steelers died down, the question was posed to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. During an appearance on 93.7 The Fan, Fittipaldo stated that he believes money is causing the gap between the two sides, reducing the chances of a signing.

“I believe the Steelers consider any of the current wide receiver free agents as number threes.” “I just don’t think they want to pay $8-9 million per year for a guy who’s going to be a number three,” Fittipaldo explained.

Mark Kaboly of The Athletic backed up that claim, stating that he believes there is a difference in compensation during contract negotiations.

“They’re trying to wait out Tyler Boyd,” Kaboly explained on 93.7 The Fan. “I’m not sure how that will play out here. I know he wants to be paid more than what they are offering him.

Boyd, 29, is coming off a 667-yard season with two touchdowns. He has 6,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in his career. The Steelers recently signed Van Jefferson, but after trading Diontae Johnson and releasing Allen Robinson, they now have only three wide receivers on their roster who are expected to make the 53-man squad.

They’ll most likely add to that list during the NFL Draft and could still make a big trade for a wide receiver. But when it comes to Boyd, it appears that the two sides are at a stalemate, with no end in sight.
