FRISCO – In a season marked by disappointment, despite Jerry Jones’ bold claim to be “All in!”, some have labeled the Dallas Cowboys as frauds. However, a more alarming form of fraud has surfaced, targeting the team’s fans directly.
Scammers are exploiting the holiday season to deceive Cowboys fans into sharing private information or money. Operating via phone and social media, these bad actors impersonate representatives of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, falsely offering fans “membership” in the Cheerleaders’ organization—an offer that does not exist.
The Cowboys and Cheerleaders issued a statement addressing the scam:
“Unfortunately, we have been made aware of recent scams contacting our fans and requesting personal and financial information. We want to make it clear – The Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will NOT initiate contact through text message, email, social media, or phone to request personal or financial details.”
The fraudulent scheme also includes false promises of a personal appearance by a cheer squad member for those who “join.”
“Additionally, there is no membership program with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” the team clarified. “If you would like the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to appear at your event, you can submit a request at Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Appearances. This is the only legitimate method to arrange an appearance.
“If someone contacts you via social media claiming to be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, attempting to set up an appearance or requesting payment directly, this is not legitimate. Please report the incident to local law enforcement or the FTC at Report Fraud FTC.”
Kudos to the Cowboys organization for showing strong defensive action off the field—something the team itself has struggled with on the field this season.
