Virginia Tech utilized its last available scholarship on Kaleb Spencer, a linebacker/defensive back transferring from Miami.

Spencer, a sophomore with three years of eligibility left, announced his commitment on Saturday evening.

Spencer hails from Gloucester, Virginia, and attended Life Christian Academy for high school. He was a three-star recruit in the 2023 class, ranked as the No. 673 player nationally by the 247Sports Composite rankings.

During his freshman year with the Hurricanes, Spencer participated in 11 games, primarily contributing on special teams. He was officially credited with one tackle.

It’s probable that Spencer will join the Hokies in the secondary, filling a need for another safety option with versatility similar to what Derrick Canteen provided last season.

Spencer marks the third post-spring transfer acquisition for the Hokies, joining UCLA quarterback Collin Schlee and Alabama defensive lineman Khurtiss Perry.
