Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed that the club is in advanced negotiations to sign Peterborough defender Harrison Burrows in a potential £3 million deal.

At 22, Burrows has already made 185 appearances, scoring 20 goals and providing 40 assists, making him an attractive prospect for the Blades.

Despite the limited time available for transfers and ongoing takeover uncertainty, Wilder is committed to securing crucial signings.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed that the club is nearing a deal for Peterborough United defender Harrison Burrows, which is a setback for Leeds United and Preston North End, who were also interested in the player.

Although Sheffield United’s interest in Harrison Burrows has been widely reported, Chris Wilder confirmed to BBC Sport’s Football Heaven that the deal is close to being finalized.

The 22-year-old would serve as a solid replacement for Max Lowe, who left for Sheffield Wednesday at the end of his contract. Despite the ongoing takeover situation at United, Burrows would become the club’s sixth signing of the summer.

Wilder confirms close pursuit of Burrows

Journalist Alan Nixon reported on Tuesday via his Patreon that Sheffield United is close to finalizing a deal for Harrison Burrows, potentially worth up to £3 million. Following the Blades’ pre-season match against Harrogate Town, Chris Wilder confirmed the pursuit is nearing completion.

Wilder told BBC Sport’s Football Heaven: “Yeah, he’s a player we’re interested in. We’re pretty close, so we have to wait and see what happens over the next 24–48 hours. It’s no secret that we’re after a few players, and the profile [of Burrows] is one we’re looking at.”

The Blades boss expressed confidence in securing Burrows but noted the need to get the deal at the right price. Nixon’s report indicates that Sheffield United has overcome interest from Preston North End, while TBR Football mentioned late interest from Leeds United.

It’s no surprise that there’s strong competition for the young Peterborough talent, Harrison Burrows.

At just 22 years old—turning 23 in January—Burrows has already made 185 appearances for Peterborough, contributing 20 goals and 40 assists, mainly from the full-back position. His impressive track record highlights why he’s such a sought-after player.

Competition Apps Goals Assists
League One 111 11 23
Championship 37 3 7
EFL Trophy 18 5 6

Harrison Burrows has also proven to be a strong leader in Darren Ferguson’s squad, having been promoted to vice-captain at the start of last season and taking on the captaincy in the latter part of the campaign.

His future looks promising, and securing him for Bramall Lane would be a smart move for Sheffield United. Burrows could establish himself as a key player for the Blades over the next decade or, should he perform exceptionally well, potentially be sold for a substantial profit.

In the same interview, Chris Wilder acknowledged the urgency of completing the club’s transfer business. He told BBC Sport: “You know, the clock’s ticking and every day that goes by is a day closer to Preston away. So we haven’t got a lot of time to work. But we’ll keep working towards that and keep ticking them off and keep adding them to the group.”

The ongoing takeover saga has been a distraction for Sheffield United, but it hasn’t prevented them from securing key targets like Kieffer Moore and Callum O’Hare. According to Nixon, Leeds’ purchase of Jayden Bogle has provided the funds for the Burrows deal, but a more settled situation would likely facilitate smoother dealings.

Burrows appears to be a promising addition to the Blades’ summer signings, and Wilder is understandably eager to finalize the deal as soon as possible.
