Tanner Pearson has a chance to revitalize his hockey career with the Vegas Golden Knights. What can he do?

When Tanner Pearson was with the Montreal Canadiens, there was an expectation that he would be a dependable veteran for the young team. However, he managed only five goals and eight assists in 54 games, falling short of expectations. This performance contrasts sharply with his tenure with the Los Angeles Kings, where he was moderately successful, scoring 69 goals and 75 assists over six seasons.

He also had a notable stint with the Vancouver Canucks, adding 55 goals and 59 assists in five seasons. Over his 11-year career, he has accumulated 138 goals and 147 assists. Now considered a journeyman, Pearson is set to have another chance with the Vegas Golden Knights, where he will participate in a tryout to secure a spot on the roster and provide additional depth to the team.

Getting Pearson on a PTO allows him to revitalize his career. Given the Golden Knights need forward depth, the former first-round pick can make his presence felt on the lower lines. But what are some things he must avoid to make his time useful if he makes the team? Is there space for the former Canadiens forward on the Golden Knights?

Transitioning from the Montreal Canadiens to the Vegas Golden Knights represents a significant shift for Tanner Pearson. The Golden Knights operate with a different style, emphasizing a strong forecheck to pressure opponents and force turnovers. This approach includes a physical checking element, which aligns well with Pearson’s strengths. Over his 11-year career, he has recorded 857 hits, demonstrating his capability in this area. Pearson is expected to fit well into Bruce Cassidy’s defensive system, providing the team with an added physical edge.

However, Tanner Pearson’s career has been marred by multiple surgeries, which have frequently sidelined him. Most recently, he’s been out for 28 games due to upper body injuries and has also struggled with hand injuries that have further limited his playing time. To secure a spot with the Golden Knights, Pearson first needs to excel during the tryout and then stay healthy. If he can achieve both, he stands a good chance of making an impact in Las Vegas. The Golden Knights are in need of forwards, particularly on the wing, and Pearson’s experience on the left side could provide valuable scoring depth if he makes the team. Ultimately, his success will hinge on taking small steps now to pave the way for a significant impact later.
