Yusuf Aydin has emphasized the “massive importance” of Hull FC finishing the season strong, as the Black and Whites aim to halt their “embarrassing decline” in their upcoming match against Wigan Warriors this Sunday afternoon.

Hull FC has endured a tough 2024 season, losing 20 of their 23 games so far. However, Aydin, who has been a standout player since his mid-season transfer from Hull KR, is determined to see an improvement in the final five games. He believes that a strong finish will set the team up well for both the pre-season and next year.

Following a major “accountability” review earlier this week, the team has taken collective responsibility for their recent performances. Their focus now is to back up their words with action as they take the field at the Brick Community Stadium.

Hull FC has had a difficult 2024 season, with 20 losses in their 23 games so far. However, Aydin, who has been a standout since his mid-season transfer from Hull KR, is calling for the team to elevate their performance in the final five games. He believes a strong finish will put them in a good position for both the pre-season and next year.

Following a significant “accountability” review earlier this week, the team has taken collective responsibility for their recent performances. Their focus now is on translating their words into actions as they take the field at the Brick Community Stadium.

“It’s one of those things that leaves you puzzled,” the player continued. “We put in so much effort in that Wigan game, and then in the weeks that followed, to just roll over in some areas—it makes you wonder how the same team can be capable of both performances. That’s where discipline and accountability come into play.

“One of the main topics we discussed this week was holding each other accountable and not taking it personally when it happens. I think there have been times when we’ve tried to hold each other accountable, and it’s been taken the wrong way, but it’s only because we all care that these things are being said.

“Injuries, of course, don’t help, but I’m not someone who likes to use that as an excuse. You make your own luck, and suspensions are avoidable. Injuries are part of the game, but ideally, whoever steps in should be able to fill that role seamlessly. However, there’s clearly been some confusion on the field at times, and it has looked disjointed. Hopefully, moving forward, we can put that to rest and get everyone on the same page.”

Now focused on moving forward, the team has set clear goals for Sunday and beyond. Aydin explained, “We’ve talked about our commitment to competing and ensuring we’re doing everything right, just like we did in the previous game. Those little details, we know, will take us a long way.

“As long as everyone understands what it means to be a competitor and a good teammate, and if everyone can embody that, then we’re going to be well on our way to winning.”
