Goole Vikings have secured former Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants player Brett Ferres as their newest signing for the upcoming season. The East Yorkshire team is gearing up for their debut in League One next year, and their squad is gradually coming together in preparation.

Goole Vikings have made a few notable signings, and Brett Ferres is arguably the biggest name they’ve brought in so far. The experienced forward has earned 16 caps for England during his career and has claimed a Grand Final title, a League Leaders’ Shield, and a World Club Challenge victory, the latter with Bradford Bulls.

Ferres began his career at Bradford’s Odsal Stadium, and over the years, the 38-year-old has played for clubs including Wakefield Trinity, Castleford Tigers, Huddersfield, Leeds, Featherstone Rovers, and Doncaster, where he spent the last two seasons. With over 400 career appearances, Ferres now faces a new challenge: helping a freshly promoted League One club find its footing.

“I think this is a very special opportunity for us to be part of something unique,” Ferres told the club’s website. “It’s going to be great for the town, and I’m excited for the journey ahead.

“I was really impressed with James and Scott’s enthusiasm and vision for the club, and I’m thrilled to be a part of that.

“I’ve been fortunate to play at a high level for a long time, and I’m eager to bring that experience to the club and help develop some of the younger players. I can’t wait for the challenge.”

Head coach Scott Taylor added: “Signing Brett Ferres for the Vikings is a significant achievement for the club, and we’re really pleased to have secured this deal.”

“He has accomplished everything in the game throughout a remarkable career, including representing his country, so he will bring a wealth of experience and leadership to our group, which will be invaluable for our younger players.

“Brett is a natural leader who communicates well and has a winning mentality. His presence will not only elevate the players around him but, alongside our other new signings, will also help build excitement around the entire club for the upcoming season.”

Ferres becomes Goole Vikings’ eighth signing, joining Tom Halliday, Ben Hodder, Jamie Shaul, Josh Guzdek, Thomas Minns, Reece Dean, and Alex Holdstock.
