The Week 10 college football lineup featured several intriguing conference showdowns that promised to impact the rankings.
Among these were No. 10 Texas A&M against South Carolina, No. 19 Ole Miss taking on Arkansas, and a top-tier clash between No. 3 Penn State and No. 4 Ohio State.
In the Razorbacks-Rebels matchup, many fans and analysts anticipated a close contest, but Ole Miss had other ideas. The Rebels, favored by 8 points according to ESPN BET, defeated Arkansas decisively, 63-31. The loss dropped Arkansas to a 5-4 record overall and 3-3 in the SEC.
Following the game, Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman faced significant criticism. The Razorbacks struggled across the board, especially on defense, allowing Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart to rack up six touchdowns and 515 yards.
Wide receiver Jordan Watkins delivered one of the season’s standout performances, tallying five touchdowns and 254 yards on eight receptions.
The Rebels’ dominance led some Arkansas fans to voice concerns online about the Razorbacks’ future.
Following Arkansas’ tough loss, college football fans voiced their frustrations over head coach Sam Pittman, with many calling for his departure from Fayetteville.
One fan declared, “Embarrassing!!!! Fire Pittman today.” Another echoed the sentiment, saying, “I’m on the fire Pittman train now.” Others chimed in with similar calls, with one fan writing, “Fire Sam Pittman right now,” and another stating, “Embarrassing. Fire Sam Pittman, this is horrible.”
Some fans pointed to the team’s record as a reason for their frustration: “6-6 in year 5 shouldn’t be good enough to keep your job after going 6-6, 4-8 the 2 years before! FIRE SAM PITTMAN!!!” Another fan added, “Embarrassing!!!! 5 years in and this is what we are getting. Fire Sam Pittman!!!!!”
Pittman has been Arkansas’ head coach since 2020, after previously serving as associate head coach and offensive line coach from 2013 to 2015.
After his stint with the Georgia Bulldogs from 2016 to 2019, Sam Pittman returned to the Razorbacks as head coach. His debut season in 2020 saw Arkansas finish with a 3-7 record, but 2021 marked his best year, as the Razorbacks posted a strong 9-4 record.
However, since that peak, the program has been on a downward trajectory. In 2022, Arkansas slipped to 7-6, followed by a rough 4-8 season in 2023.
With Pittman’s future uncertain and the Razorbacks competing against some of the nation’s toughest teams in the SEC, Arkansas could soon be looking to initiate a coaching search.
