The Cleveland Browns head into the NFL Draft with various needs, typical of any team, but are fortunate to boast a deep roster. The front office addressed the linebacker position by acquiring Devin Bush and Jordan Hicks, added a new wide receiver in Jerry Jeudy, and made notable signings including Nyheim Hines, Quinton Jefferson, D’onta Foreman, and Jameis Winston. Additionally, they successfully retained key players such as Za’Darius Smith, Shelby Harris, Maurice Hurst, and Corey Bojorquez.
Once again, the Browns will have to wait until the second round to make their selection, this time at No. 54. Fortunately, they should have a plethora of options to consider when their pick comes around.
Beat writer Jeff Schudel from The Morning Journal suggests that the Cleveland Browns would be wise to prioritize selecting an offensive guard in the upcoming draft. He highlights that Hakeem Adeniji’s one-year deal indicates the team’s desire to potentially upgrade at the position. With this in mind, Schudel singles out Christian Haynes, a 317-pound prospect from Connecticut, as a potential target who could eventually step in as Joel Bitonio’s successor.
Jeff Schudel also discussed Mason McCormick from South Dakota State, a 6-foot-4 guard who, like Dawand Jones last season, exhibits considerable potential but may require some refinement before being game-ready. Nonetheless, the Browns appear to be in a favorable position, as they should have options available to address any significant gaps in the roster without feeling pressured to make a move.
Opting for the best player available in the NFL Draft always involves some degree of risk. However, like any significant risk in the draft, it has the potential to yield substantial rewards.
