Just weeks before the 2024 college football season kicks off, the Louisville Cardinals faced a major setback as standout wide receiver Caullin Lacy broke his collarbone.
Lacy sustained the injury during the final scrimmage of fall camp and is anticipated to be sidelined for a significant duration. Lacy was one of the Cardinals’ key offseason acquisitions from the transfer portal, coming off an impressive season with the South Alabama Jaguars, where he tallied 91 receptions for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns.
Lacy was widely anticipated to be head coach Jeff Brohm’s primary receiving target this fall. His impressive 2023 stats positioned him as the top candidate to replace last season’s leading receiver, Jamari Thrash, who recorded 63 receptions for 858 yards and six touchdowns.
With Lacy’s injury, Chris Bell is expected to step into a larger role, alongside Alabama transfer Ja’Corey Brooks. Bell, a returning player for the Cardinals, finished last season as the team’s second-leading receiver.
The program opens its 2024 campaign by hosting the Austin Peay Governors on Aug. 31 at noon (ET), airing on the ACC Network.
