COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The Air Force football team started their season with a 1-0 record after defeating FCS Merrimack 21-6 last Saturday. However, the offense faced some challenges.

“We have some things to figure out, but we probably expected a lot more than 166 rushing yards,” said Air Force offensive lineman Michael McAninch.

The Falcons’ offensive line is particularly disappointed with their performance in Week 1, especially their inability to score more points and establish a stronger running game.

“As an offensive line, we set a goal to rush for 300 yards per game. So, only getting about half of that is not exciting,” McAninch added.

The frustrations from the game are evident, but the Falcons’ offensive line is focused on making improvements.

“Our most vocal leader on the offensive line is Alex Moore. He’s called multiple meetings where we’ve talked as a group, without coaches, about how we need to approach things and work every day,” McAninch said.

“A lot of this is new for all of us, including Alex. Last year, we had about 10 seniors, and now we’re just trying to figure this out.”

In the backfield, the Falcons might be without starting fullback Dylan Carson for a while, which means another young player, Owen Allen, will need to step up.

“He had really, really good production in high school against good competition,” said head coach Troy Calhoun.

Air Force will face San Jose State on Saturday at 5 pm.
