While it took a bit longer than anticipated, Hakeem Butler is making his return to the NFL. According to Adam Schefter, the former St. Louis Battlehawks star wide receiver is signing with the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite receiving interest from several NFL teams, Butler has secured a spot with the Bengals following a successful workout today.

Hakeem Butler’s story is absolutely incredible. After spending a bit of time away from football, he messaged the Battlehawks Head Coach, Anthony Becht, asking for an opportunity to play with the team for the 2023 season.

Becht gave Hakeem Butler a chance by bringing him to Training Camp. Butler went on to lead the XFL with eight receiving touchdowns and was a dominant force for the St. Louis Battlehawks, recording 599 receiving yards that season. This performance earned him an opportunity with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After his stint with Pittsburgh, Butler returned to the St. Louis Battlehawks and continued to impress in the spring football scene. In the 2024 UFL season, he led all wide receivers with 652 receiving yards and scored five touchdowns.

Hakeem Butler’s impressive performance in the UFL, which earned him All-UFL honors and the Offensive Player of the Year award, has led to his signing with the Cincinnati Bengals. Standing at 6’6″, Butler combines a massive frame with impressive speed and outstanding hands. His ability to make contested catches has been evident in the spring football leagues, and he’ll now aim to replicate that success in the NFL with the Bengals.

It’s been a busy day for the Bengals, who also signed Michigan Panthers DB Nate Brooks. The Bengals’ attention to the UFL reflects a positive trend for the league, showing that spring football can be a valuable pipeline to the NFL.
