Miami secures commitment from ECU transfer. Brandon Johnson

The Miami Hurricanes are making moves to bring players to Coral Gables early this offseason, including a commitment from ECU forward Brandon Johnson. After three seasons at East Carolina, the 6-foot-8 junior from Raleigh, North Carolina is heading to Miami for his senior season.

This past season, Johnson averaged 14 points and 8.6 rebounds per game for the Pirates. Johnson is an excellent floor spacer, shooting 36.5% from deep on 5.7 attempts per game this season. After a visit earlier this week, Miami has secured his commitment, as he will provide the Hurricanes with an outside jumper.

In his end-of-season press conference, Hurricanes head coach Jim Larrañaga stated that the team prioritized adding size this offseason. Miami has done just that in the early stages of the transfer portal, signing 6-foot-10 Lynn Kidd and Johnson so far.

Johnson will help to fill the void left by AJ Casey, Michael Nwoko, and Christian Watson, all of whom joined the portal earlier this offseason. Jounson is known for his strong defensive presence and rebounding ability, both of which Miami lacked this season.

Johnson represents a positive step forward for the Hurricanes. It’s still early in the transfer portal cycle, and Miami still has two available scholarships.
