Castleford Tigers head coach Craig Lingard has announced that Paul McShane may be available to play in their Magic Weekend match against Huddersfield Giants on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers and Giants will conclude the weekend at Elland Road, with Castleford potentially benefiting from Paul McShane’s return to hooker.
The experienced Castleford player has appeared in just five Super League matches in 2024 due to several serious injuries. However, he has resumed full training, having recently received confirmation that his bone has healed. The focus now is on regaining match fitness.
Castleford head coach Craig Lingard told League Express, “Macca (Paul McShane) is back in full training now, and he got the all-clear last week that his bone had healed. It’s now about getting him up to match fitness.”
Lingard also mentioned Cain Robb’s situation: “I’m hoping McShane will be ready this week, but he hasn’t done any contact work yet. Robb has undergone a scan, but we haven’t received the results yet. It’s speculative, but we believe his shoulder may have dislocated and then relocated without manipulation. If that’s the case, there could be ligament damage to the joint.”
Regarding McShane’s future after this season, discussions are ongoing about a potential move to Australia for the 34-year-old.
Lingard shared, “His future is still uncertain. He’s still considering a move to Australia, and if something gets finalized, it will happen. However, this would require an agreement with a club over there and also a mutual decision between McShane and Castleford to release him from the final year of his contract, so it’s not yet confirmed.”
