A GWS youngster has locked in his next move.

GWS youngster Conor Stone has committed to a new contract with the Giants, despite off-season interest from Essendon.

Stone, whose contract was set to expire this year, had been considering his options, attracting attention from clubs in his home state of Victoria.

The Bombers recently confirmed their interest in Stone, while the Giants had extended an offer for the 22-year-old to stay.

With the departures of Harry Perryman to Collingwood and Isaac Cumming to Adelaide, the Giants were hopeful of retaining Stone, who is eager for more opportunities at the AFL level.

The exit of the defensive duo has paved the way for Stone to gain more senior experience under coach Adam Kingsley. He has now committed to the New South Wales club for an additional two seasons.

Conor Stone has played only 13 games for the Giants since being selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2020 AFL Draft. After making his debut in 2021, he managed just four appearances this season.

The fringe player transitioned to a half-back role at the VFL level midway through the year after initially showing promise as a medium-sized forward. Stone impressed as a defender, averaging 23.74 disposals per game, following a strong start to the season where he kicked 16 goals in his first six games.

Retaining Stone is crucial for GWS, as the club has lost Harry Perryman, Isaac Cumming, and Nick Haynes (to Carlton) during the off-season, with midfielder James Peatling also requesting a trade to Adelaide.
