Watson has now officially left Huddersfield Giants.

Ian Watson has officially left Huddersfield Giants, as the club has confirmed his departure. Watson had not been in charge for Huddersfield’s last three matches, with his final game being a 48-0 loss to Warrington Wolves earlier this month.

At that time, the club had only stated that Watson was stood down but did not explicitly mention a permanent departure or dismissal. Nearly three weeks later, the Giants have now provided an update confirming that Watson’s tenure at Huddersfield has ended.

In a short statement issued by the club, they said: “Huddersfield Giants can confirm that Head Coach Ian Watson has left the club by mutual consent.”

Watson joined the club ahead of the 2021 season, with the club reaching the Challenge Cup Final and securing a third-placed finish a year later. But they had a poor 2023 campaign while eight defeats in nine games this season saw the Giants make a change.

Luke Robinson has been placed in caretaker charge and has guided the team to one win in three outings. They are currently ninth in Super League, eight points adrift of the play-offs with eight games of the season remaining.
