Jed Cartwright is set to strengthen the Hull FC pack as he prepares to make his debut for the Black and Whites this weekend.

Jed Cartwright, who joined Hull FC from Newcastle Knights in June to bolster the squad, has been sidelined with a foot injury since his arrival in East Yorkshire. After nearly two months of recovery, he is set to make his debut this weekend as Hull FC faces Leigh Leopards.

With injuries mounting at the MKM Stadium—most recently affecting Jake Trueman—Cartwright will join a young and depleted pack. Interim boss Simon Grix is pleased to have Cartwright’s experience and leadership as part of his plans.

Interim Hull FC boss Simon Grix commented on Jed Cartwright’s challenging start, saying, “Joining a new team is tough enough, but getting injured right away and not being able to contribute during a difficult period has not been ideal for him. He gets along well with the team, has settled in, and now he needs to get out there and show us what he can do.”

Grix continued, “Cartwright brings valuable experience from around a decade at the first-team level. Despite his injury struggles, his presence in those environments speaks to his rugby ability. You also need to be a good person in these situations. Having been in similar positions myself, I believe you have to contribute more than just being in the rehab room.”

Grix praised Cartwright’s experience and verbal contributions during training, noting, “He’s made some valuable input in the few sessions we’ve had with him, and I’m really looking forward to seeing him on the field. His size will also help us; he’s a big body, and it’s been a tough start for him at FC.”

Cartwright will be joined in the Hull squad by fellow debutant Sam Eseh, who arrived on loan from Wigan Warriors earlier this week. With Grix’s options limited, he might also include a few more young players for the first time.

Grix mentioned, “Will Hutchinson, a nine from the academy, Ryan Westerman, Will Kirby, and others are training with us at the moment. Our fringe players are getting more exposure than anticipated, and bringing in these young players, who we didn’t plan to use this year, highlights our current situation. We can’t dwell on it; we need to move forward.”
