IAN WATSON has addressed speculation linking Huddersfield Giants halfback Olly Russell with a move to Wakefield Trinity.

Russell, who presently occupies the third spot in the John Smith’s Stadium hierarchy behind Adam Clune and Tui Lolohea, has been linked to a move to Daryl Powell’s Wakefield in advance of their anticipated return to the Super League in 2025.

That tale was first reported by Rugby League Live several months ago, and Watson has since responded to the rumours, raising the possibility of a move for Russell.

Olly will choose what’s best for him, according to Watson. “I believe Olly has already made up his mind, but he should make the announcement whenever he feels ready.

He has been a vital member of our team for the past few years, and we all adore him here. He has played an incredible amount of games since I arrived and has shown us what he is all about.

“I’m incredibly happy for Olly. Olly will be upset with me since I chose the team even if I only want the best for him because he isn’t playing right now. It’s a frustrating one.

“He’s a great guy who will succeed in whatever he chooses to do.”

Wakefield, who were acquired by Matt Ellis, the owner of DIY Kitchens, at the close of the previous season, have also been connected to deals involving Tom Johnstone and Mike McMeeken of the Catalans Dragons.
