Wrexham have made their first signing of the summer, but manager Phil Parkinson is eager to bring in additional new players in the upcoming weeks.

More than two months after securing promotion to League One, Wrexham has completed their first signing of the summer.

Fans had hoped to see Arthur Okonkwo return after his impressive loan spell at STōK Cae Ras last season. Wrexham has now achieved a significant coup by signing Okonkwo permanently from Arsenal. The talented goalkeeper has committed his future to Wrexham, making him their first signing of the window.

While Phil Parkinson aims to make more signings, one rumored target might opt to join another League One club instead.

Exeter City is interested in signing Josh Magennis, who was one of the first names linked with a move to Wrexham this summer.

Speculation in May indicated that Wrexham had pursued three players released by Wigan Athletic this summer, including Josh Magennis, left back Tom Pearce, and forward Stephen Humphrys.

Manager Phil Parkinson, who previously worked with Magennis at Bolton Wanderers, seemed interested in a reunion despite their mixed history together. However, rumors of these players joining Wrexham have quieted in recent weeks, and now Magennis is drawing interest from elsewhere.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Exeter City is now keen on signing Magennis and is expected to reach an agreement for the transfer.

Exeter City, gearing up to face Wrexham in League One this season, aims to strengthen their attacking lineup by securing Josh Magennis. Despite scoring five League One goals last season, the Northern Ireland international, aged 33, appears set to continue in the third tier with Exeter.

A potential move to Wrexham now seems improbable, and recent contract developments may shed light on why he isn’t heading to Wales.

Steven Fletcher’s decision to sign a contract extension with Wrexham has potentially ruled out a move for Josh Magennis. The links to Magennis were intriguing due to his physicality and experience as a center forward.

Wrexham already has Ollie Palmer in a similar role, and the club was also keen to retain Steven Fletcher, who made a positive impact last season and was offered a new contract in May. With Fletcher now committing to Wrexham with a one-year extension, manager Phil Parkinson may feel he doesn’t need both Fletcher and Magennis for the upcoming season.

As a result, it appears likely that Magennis will join Exeter City in League One, setting up potential matchups against Wrexham. Parkinson will undoubtedly hope Magennis doesn’t score against his side at STōK Cae Ras.
