It seems probable that Celtic will part ways with Mikey Johnston during the upcoming summer transfer window. The Daily Record has identified Johnston as one of 15 players who could potentially depart Celtic Park during this period.

Despite securing victories in both the SPFL and the Scottish FA Cup, Celtic encountered challenges during the 2023-24 season. In order to progress and strengthen the squad, quality signings are necessary, and Brendan Rodgers may be considering the sale of several fringe players as part of this strategy.

Johnston, who has risen through the ranks of the Celtic youth system, has amassed over 90 appearances for the club. While he has been a dependable squad member, he hasn’t quite cemented himself as a regular starter.

In a bid to further his development, Rodgers expressed frustration with Johnston’s form and subsequently loaned him to West Brom, a decision that has proved fruitful. Under Carlos Corberan’s management, Johnston emerged as a key player, contributing seven goals and two assists last season.

The Daily Record anticipates that Celtic could command a significant transfer fee for the 25-year-old, owing to his impressive loan spell and improved performance.

Aside from Mikey Johnston, there are potential departures from Celtic as well. With a desire to strengthen their forward line, Rodgers has expressed interest in securing Adam Idah on a permanent basis. Should Idah make the move, it’s possible that Oh Hyeon-gyu, the South Korean international, may depart the club. Oh has seen limited playing time, failing to make an appearance since February.

Gustaf Lagerbielke, who arrived last summer, faced the possibility of leaving the club in January. However, he has struggled to make an impact, and his departure now appears increasingly likely. Similarly, Yuki Kobayashi, another defender, has not seen any first-team action for Celtic this year, making his departure seem inevitable.

Meanwhile, there’s uncertainty surrounding Matt O’Riley’s future at the club. While Celtic ideally would like to retain him, several top clubs are interested in acquiring his services. Newcastle is among the clubs rumored to be keen on signing him, and he could potentially depart for a substantial fee.
