Field has not been included in Matt Peet’s squad for the match against Leigh Leopards on Tuesday night.
Jai Field has been excluded from Wigan Warriors’ lineup for their match against Leigh Leopards. The fullback, who made a try-scoring comeback in Thursday’s win over Huddersfield Giants, will not be part of Matt Peet’s squad for tonight’s game.
Field had been sidelined for nearly two months due to a hamstring injury sustained in the Challenge Cup Final but returned last week to score and help Wigan secure a victory. Despite his recent return, he will not play against Leigh, with young Zach Eckersley taking his place at fullback. The positive news for Wigan fans is that Field has not suffered a new injury.
Sources have confirmed that the decision to keep Jai Field out of tonight’s game against Leigh was planned from the start. Medical advice indicated that playing Field in back-to-back games would pose too great a risk, given his recent return from injury. He only played 65 minutes against Huddersfield as part of his recovery, and playing again so soon could risk reinjuring himself.
Field could have been held back for the Leigh match, but that would have likely meant missing Saturday’s trip to Headingley to face the Leeds Rhinos for the same reason. By missing Tuesday’s game, he should be in a better position to be considered for the match against the Rhinos over the weekend.
