The Broncos superstar showed his determination to play through the injury.
It looks like the Broncos may have to continue their push for the finals without their key attacking player, Reece Walsh, who is facing the possibility of missing the rest of the season due to a metacarpal hand fracture. Broncos head of performance David Ballard stated, “Reece has sustained a metacarpal fracture, and we will consult a specialist to determine the next steps.”
There are indications that Walsh sustained the injury during a tackle from Cowboys back Valentine Holmes. Walsh was visibly in pain throughout the match, and some fans have criticized him recently, noting that he has struggled physically since State of Origin.
Despite facing significant criticism and battling through multiple injuries this season, Reece Walsh continued to push through the pain during the Broncos’ win against the Cowboys. He was again seen grimacing and clutching his hand during the match but still managed to contribute with two try assists, six tackle busts, and two line break assists in their 42-18 victory.
Unfortunately for the Broncos, Walsh is expected to miss the next game as he focuses on recovering from his hand injury.
NRL Physio Brien Seeney suggested the usual return time can be either three or four weeks if everything goes to plan. The Broncos only have three more games left in the season after the bye. They have a slim hope of making finals footy if they win their remaining three games and other results if their way. Walsh’s best chance of playing NRL footy again this year could be if his club make the finals.
The Broncos are facing a tough injury toll, with Reece Walsh’s hand fracture being the latest setback. Adding to their challenges, Ezra Mam will miss the rest of the season due to an ankle injury sustained last week.
However, there is some hope for the Broncos’ finals push as Payne Haas (recovering from a Lisfranc injury) and Tyson Smoothy (ankle injury) are both potentially nearing returns. Their comeback could provide a significant boost to the team as they strive to make a push for the playoffs.
David Ballard provided an update on the Broncos’ injury situation:
“Ezra underwent surgery last week and will start his rehab program over the coming weeks, with the aim of being ready for pre-season training later this year.”
Regarding Payne Haas and Tyson Smoothy:
“Payne and Tyson both didn’t require surgery. Payne will undergo further testing in the coming days to determine his return timeline, while Tyson has begun his rehab work in the gym.”
