Nottingham Forest news as Reds eye reinforcements for boss Nuno Espirito Santo in summer transfer window

Nottingham Forest face a waiting game to sign free agent Che Adams as they aim to strengthen Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad this summer.

Adams’ contract with Southampton expires at the end of this month, and while Forest are keen to enhance their attacking options with him, they face competition. Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested in the 27-year-old, and according to BBC Sport, he has attracted attention from Italy, the MLS, and Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Southampton indicated that discussions for a potential new deal were “ongoing” when they released their retained list last week.

However, a quick decision on Adams’ future seems unlikely as he is currently playing for Scotland in Euro 2024. According to the BBC, his situation is “unlikely to be resolved” before the tournament begins, with Scotland set to face Germany on Friday night in the opener.

Forest and Wolves are considered the frontrunners in the race for his signature. Adams’ status as a free agent is particularly appealing to Forest, given they were docked four points last season for breaching financial rules.

Forest have previously shown interest in Adams. He was on their wanted list in January 2020, during Sabri Lamouchi’s tenure as manager.

Leeds United were also keen on the forward at that time. However, Adams ultimately stayed with Southampton.

Adams, who previously played for Ilkeston Town, has spent the last five years with Southampton after transferring from Birmingham City in 2019. He has amassed over 160 league appearances and netted 49 goals for the club. In the 2023/24 season, he scored 16 goals as Southampton secured promotion back to the Premier League through the playoffs.
