Leicester City are looking to replace Chelsea-bound Enzo Maresca

Leicester City could potentially deal a significant blow to West Brom, one of Middlesbrough’s Championship promotion rivals, by showing interest in their head coach, Carlos Corberan.

Corberan, formerly an assistant to Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United, has garnered a strong reputation in coaching since taking charge at Huddersfield Town in 2020. He led the Terriers to the play-off final in 2022 but resigned due to disagreements with the club’s direction, particularly after key players like Lewis O’Brien, who previously played on loan for Middlesbrough, were sold.

Following a brief and unsuccessful stint with Olympiakos, Corberan returned to England to join West Brom, arriving just a day after Michael Carrick was appointed at Middlesbrough. Despite initial challenges, he guided West Brom to the play-offs this season, despite uncertainties off the field, including the club’s takeover in February.

While there were no indications of Corberan leaving West Brom after their play-off success, discussions at the Midlands club have centered around ambitious plans to challenge again in the upcoming season, following their defeat to eventual promotion winners Southampton in the play-off semi-finals.

However, with Leicester City, a newly promoted Premier League side, set to lose their manager Enzo Maresca to Chelsea – a move expected to be finalized by the end of the week – the Foxes are now in search of a new manager and are reportedly considering Corberan.

According to a report verified by our sister site Leicestershire Live, which cited information from the Sun, Corberan is among the candidates being considered for the role at the King Power Stadium. Other names mentioned include Graham Potter, David Moyes, and Steve Cooper, all of whom have prior experience in the Premier League and are currently without clubs, thus eliminating the need for Leicester to pay a compensation fee.

Boro manager Carrick has also been listed among the candidates by bookmakers, albeit with long odds of 16/1. However, he is reportedly close to finalizing a new deal and extending his tenure with Boro.

This potential extension might explain why Carrick’s name isn’t being circulated more widely during this period of managerial changes. A recent report by The Athletic highlighted that Carrick has been considered a top candidate, especially for clubs emphasizing data-driven approaches.
