Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy is facing criticism after star running back Ollie Gordon was arrested for DUI in early July. Gundy initially stated that Gordon would face internal consequences but would not miss any games. However, Gundy’s remarks at the Big 12 Conference media day stirred controversy.

Gundy’s comments, where he mentioned that having 2-4 beers before driving is common and that he himself has done it “probably a thousand times in my life,” have drawn significant backlash. While Gundy clarified that he was not justifying Gordon’s actions, his remarks were perceived poorly, with many in the college football community expressing concern over the message it sends about drunk driving.

“I looked it up on my phone – what would be the legal limit? … 2 or 3 beers, or 4. I’m not justifying what Ollie did; I’m telling you the decision I made. Well, I thought, I’ve probably done that a thousand times in my life.”
