The New York Yankees are continuing to bolster their roster with former San Diego Padres players. According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Yankees have reached an agreement to sign veteran left-handed reliever Tim Hill to a one-year major-league deal. This move comes shortly after Hill was designated for assignment by the Chicago White Sox.

In a corresponding move, the Yankees have announced that they are designating left-handed pitcher Clayton Andrews for assignment.

Tim Hill, aged 34, has played for three different teams since making his MLB debut in 2018. This includes a stint with the San Diego Padres from 2020 to 2023. During his time with the Padres, Hill was teammates with current Yankees star Juan Soto for the last two seasons of his tenure there.

Tim Hill has not been particularly effective this year, posting a disappointing 5.87 ERA in 27 relief appearances before being designated for assignment by the struggling Chicago White Sox, who currently have the worst record in MLB. Despite his struggles, the Yankees are facing injuries to several relievers and will now look to Hill to provide additional depth and serve as a bridge option in their bullpen.
