Penn State’s Cornerback Pipeline: A Testament to Elite Recruiting
Penn State continues to excel in recruiting and developing standout cornerbacks, building an impressive lineage of talent in State College.
Notable players include Joey Porter Jr., Kalen King, and Daequan Hardy, along with current rising stars like Cam Miller, Zion Tracy, and Elliot Washington.
The Nittany Lions have also made strategic use of the transfer portal to bolster their secondary. Johnny Dixon, a South Carolina transfer, thrived during his tenure at Penn State, and the 2024 team is reaping the benefits of SEC experience with AJ Harris (from Georgia) and Jalen Kimber (from Florida) anchoring the cornerback room.
This combination of top-tier recruiting and savvy transfer additions highlights Penn State’s commitment to maintaining a dominant defensive backfield.
Audavion Collins Emerging as Key Contributor in Penn State’s Secondary
Audavion Collins, a transfer from Mississippi State, has become a vital part of Penn State’s cornerback rotation in recent games.
Head coach James Franklin praised Collins’ dedication and work ethic during Wednesday’s practice. “When he arrived, even after some college experience, he was just 165 pounds,” Franklin said. “But he’s embraced everything we’ve asked of him. He works tirelessly in the weight room and at practice every single day.”
Now listed at 180 pounds, the 5-11 Collins is also one of the team’s fastest players. His speed and effort have translated into impactful performances on the field, including nine tackles (seven solo) and a sack over the last two games against Washington and Purdue.
Collins’ growth exemplifies the depth and versatility Penn State has cultivated in its secondary, bolstering the team’s defensive efforts as the season progresses.
Collins could have a significant role in 9-1 Penn State’s Big Ten road game against 6-4 Minnesota on Saturday.
