Reading FC’s head of football operations, Mark Bowen, has been fined and suspended for misconduct related to the FA’s betting rules.

Bowen, who served as Reading’s first-team manager from 2019 to 2020 before being appointed as head of football operations in May 2022, admitted to placing 95 bets on football matches between 19 April 2022 and 14 January 2024. These bets were not related to Reading, according to a statement released by the FA.

“An independent Regulatory Commission imposed a 12-week suspension on 17 July 2024, with eight weeks suspended until the end of the 2025/26 season, and fined him £7,000 during a hearing.

The independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons can be viewed below.”
