ESPN makes interesting prediction about Steelers’ starting QB.

2023 Pittsburgh Steelers Team Needs 1.0 - Behind the Steel Curtain

ESPN made an interesting prediction about who would start at quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers next season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for improved quarterback play this offseason, whether it comes from Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, or someone outside the organization.

ESPN’s Seth Walder believes the Steelers will look for an outsider and make a splashy trade to get their next starting quarterback. He predicts that they will sign Justin Fields from the Bears and make him their starter in 2024.

“The Steelers’ next franchise quarterback is not yet on the roster. Kenny Pickett hasn’t improved enough in two seasons, and while Mason Rudolph performed well in a few starts down the stretch, he hasn’t been consistent enough in his career to be a reliable option in the future,” Walter wrote. “That they managed 10 wins last season despite their weak QB group makes them a candidate to deal for Fields, who could be a decent fit with new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.”

According to reports from the NFL Combine, the Bears wanted to reach an agreement with a Justin Fields suitor as soon as possible. If the Steelers are interested, they could finalize the framework of a trade with Chicago before leaving Indianapolis next week.

Pickett is the only Steelers quarterback under contract for the 2024 season. They have several options for rounding out their group of signal-callers: keep Rudolph, who is currently a free agent, add another veteran like Russell Wilson or Kirk Cousins, trade for a player like Fields, or choose one of the rookies available this spring.

According to ESPN, fans can expect the Steelers to fill their most important position through a historic trade.
