“The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly finalizing a one-year deal with offensive tackle Mekhi Becton, potentially worth up to $5.5 million, as per ESPN.”
“According to reports, the ‘up to’ $5.5 million figure is provided by Becton’s agents, with the actual numbers yet to be determined.
Becton, standing at an imposing 6’7″ and weighing 364 pounds, was selected in the first round (11th overall) by the Jets in the 2020 NFL Draft. His career began promisingly, showcasing solid performance as a rookie left tackle. However, he suffered a knee injury in Week 1 of the 2021 season, sidelining him for the remainder of the year. In 2022, he transitioned to right tackle but faced another setback, missing the entire season due to an injury sustained in training camp. Reports indicated that he reached around 400 pounds during this time.
In 2023, Becton shed weight and returned to form, starting in all 16 games.”
“In 2023, Becton’s performance, according to PFF, included allowing 12 sacks and committing a staggering 18 penalties.
Despite expectations for the Eagles to draft an offensive tackle in the 2024 NFL Draft, they opted to sign Becton instead. In the upcoming season, Becton will have an opportunity to serve as the team’s swing tackle.”
