South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer successfully secured a commitment from Anthony Addison, a 4-star EDGE prospect hailing from Sumter, who plays both outside linebacker and defensive end.

South Carolina football is experiencing a significant surge in recruiting activity, with head coach Shane Beamer unveiling three separate #WelcomeHome announcements in just four days. The spree began on Tuesday with 4-star wide receiver Brian Rowe pledging his commitment to USC. On Wednesday, in-state safety Damarcus Leach followed suit, revealing his decision to join the Gamecocks. capping off the week, Sumter’s outside linebacker/defensive end prospect, Anthony Addison, announced his commitment to South Carolina during many fans’ lunch break, choosing the Gamecocks over offers from the Tennessee Volunteers and Duke Blue Devils.

Addison showcases impressive athleticism as an EDGE player, with the potential to add weight and transition into a full-time defensive end at the collegiate level. While there’s a possibility he may initially follow the path of hybrid EDGE players like Fred “JayR” Johnson and Wendell Gregory, who began their South Carolina football careers at linebacker, Addison’s extensive experience primarily suggests a future at defensive end.

His strengths lie in his quick first step and straight-line speed, making him a formidable pass rusher. Additionally, his ability to pursue ball carriers from behind on run plays away from him adds versatility to his skill set. With his exceptional length, Addison effectively utilizes his arms to disrupt offensive linemen’s blocks and create opportunities to make plays.

The addition of the Sumter Gamecock to the South Carolina Gamecocks signifies a significant step forward for the program. As the second defensive player to commit in the 2025 recruiting class, following safety Damarcus Leach, he strengthens an already promising EDGE room. With a blend of young talent and impending departures of veteran contributors over the next couple of years, there’s an opportunity for early playing time for him.
