In need of added depth in their secondary, the Pittsburgh Steelers have brought back safety Terrell Edmunds. A former standout at Virginia Tech, Edmunds was originally selected by the Steelers in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He served as a starter for most of his first five seasons with the team before leaving in free agency prior to last season. After signing with the Philadelphia Eagles, he was traded to the Tennessee Titans during the season but was released on cut-down day. Edmunds then joined the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad before being re-signed by the Steelers, making his return to Pittsburgh.

When addressing the media, coach Mike Tomlin explained why bringing back Terrell Edmunds was the right move for the Steelers. “It’s a guy that knows us. A guy that we know,” Tomlin said. “At this point in the season, you can’t have enough of those situations. It might not be a pressing need now, but that could change in a few weeks.” He compared the decision to the team’s approach with Cam Sutton, stating, “We brought in guys we know fit, understand our environment, and can contribute when needed.”

The Steelers defense stifled the Atlanta Falcons offense in Week 1. The players they are adding can only make this team better. Edmunds is just 27 and in the prime of his career. The Steelers have always been a defense-first franchise. This addition only benefits Pittsburgh in the long run. Pittsburgh will head to Denver to take on the Broncos this Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET.
