The new defensive tackles added to the Miami football program for the 2024 roster bring more productivity compared to the ones the Hurricanes lost through outgoing transfers.

The Miami football team’s defensive tackle position is expected to improve in 2024 with the additions of Simeon Barrow from Michigan State, C.J. Clark from North Carolina State, and Marley Cook from Middle Tennessee State. These new recruits are anticipated to enhance the team’s performance compared to the outgoing transfers.

Miami lost several key players at defensive tackle from the 2023 roster, including multi-year starter Jared Harrison-Hunte, Thomas Gore, and Jamil Burroughs. Harrison-Hunte was a significant contributor during his time with the Hurricanes, Gore provided essential depth, and Burroughs, who transferred from Alabama last August, never played for Miami.

Barrow, Clark, and Cook bring multiple years of starting experience to Miami in 2024, each offering unique skills. Simeon Barrow, standing at 6’3″ and weighing 300 pounds, is a robust run-stuffer in the middle of the defensive line who can also rush the passer.

C.J. Clark, at 6’3″ and 305 pounds, slightly larger than Barrow, brings versatility to Miami’s defensive line. Having played both end and tackle in North Carolina State’s 3-3-5 defense, Clark will now adapt to Miami’s 4-2-5 scheme. Clark mentioned to CaneSport that he is looking forward to a scheme that allows him to better utilize his athleticism.

Jared Harrison-Hunte was the only significant loss for Miami at defensive tackle from the 2023 roster. The additions of Barrow, Clark, and Cook are expected to adequately replace Harrison-Hunte’s production. Miami also returns Joshua Horton and Ahmad Moten on the defensive line, and five-star freshman Justin Scott is anticipated to compete for snaps at defensive tackle.
