The Midlands club may need to be patient to finalize a deal for the Scotland international.

  •  Wolves are keen on Che Adams, who may only be one step away from a move to Molineux.
  •  The striker may wait until after the Euros to make a decision on his future.
  •  Adams should make a decision on his future before the Euros for financial and performance reasons.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Southampton striker Che Adams might delay signing with Wolverhampton Wanderers until after the European Championships.

Adams, whose contract at St Mary’s expires this summer, faces an uncertain future. While it seems probable he will depart from the south-coast club in the coming weeks or months, nothing is certain yet.

Southampton manager Russell Martin is eager to keep the 27-year-old striker, and following the club’s play-off final win against Leeds United last weekend, Martin’s chances of retaining one of his key players may have improved.

Retaining Adams could be crucial for Southampton, especially with Paul Onuachu likely to depart during the summer window after his loan spell in Turkey last season.

With Onuachu potentially leaving and Sekou Mara’s future uncertain—given his limited role for the Saints during the 2023/24 campaign—the club might need more quality and depth in the striker position if Adams also departs.

Even if Adams stays, Southampton may still require another striker to bolster their squad. By retaining one of their key players, the recently promoted club could reduce their summer transfer workload.

Despite generating substantial revenue from player sales last summer, Southampton has already invested a reported £20 million in Taylor Harwood-Bellis. They will likely be cautious with further spending to stay within financial regulations.

Finding an adequate replacement for Che Adams would be costly, given his quality and effectiveness in the final third. This financial constraint makes retaining Adams even more critical for the club.

The latest update on Che Adams’ situation involves ongoing interest from Wolves.

Adams is included in Scotland’s provisional squad for the European Championships in Germany next month. It’s highly likely that he will be part of Steve Clarke’s final squad, keeping him with the national team until at least June 23rd, when they play Hungary in their last group match.

Despite Tutto Mercato Web’s report that Adams is close to joining Wolves, they also suggest he might wait until after the Euros to decide on his future.

Che Adams should seek clarity on his future as soon as possible, ideally before the Euros, for two main reasons.

Firstly, being out of contract poses a risk. If he gets seriously injured in Germany, he won’t have a contract to rely on. Signing with a new club would provide him with a long-term contract and financial security, which would be beneficial for him.

Secondly, uncertainty about his future could distract him during the Euros, potentially affecting his performance. It would be logical for him to decide on his next club before heading to the tournament.
