The Fijian player is moving to a Super League rival, providing Salford with the chance to bring in a new recruit.
Hull FC are set to strengthen their team with the addition of King Vuniyayawa from Salford Red Devils. Rugby League Live reports that the prop will join the Black and Whites for the rest of the season, opening up a quota spot for Salford.
Fijian Vuniyayawa, formerly of Leeds Rhinos, is out of contract with Salford at the season’s end and has recently been offered to other clubs, as the Reds look to free up a quota spot to facilitate further business before the transfer deadline.
Salford secured a loan deal for Warrington Wolves prop Joe Bullock on Tuesday, and with that agreement finalized, the club has decided to release Vuniyayawa. This move is expected to trigger additional changes within Paul Rowley’s squad before the transfer deadline.
The Black and Whites have been urgently seeking new recruits in recent weeks, as head coach Simon Grix aims to bolster a squad that has been depleted by the absence of several key players. Now, with the 29-year-old Vuniyayawa joining, Grix’s wish is granted ahead of their weekend match against the Wigan Warriors.
During his weekly press conference on Wednesday, Grix discussed the ongoing efforts to secure new additions.
“There’s still some movement going on. Richie (Myler) is having conversations with agents and clubs. He’s trying. I don’t think we’ll get anyone else this week, and to be fair, it wouldn’t really work anyway as we’ve only got one more session left before we play. Hopefully, next week, there’s a bit of news on that, but in the meantime, we just have to get on with what we’ve got.”
Vuniyayawa will be the club’s second signing in a matter of days, following Ed Chamberlain’s move to Hull FC earlier this week.
In other news, Hull FC half-back Mackenzie Harman has joined League One team Rochdale Hornets on a short-term loan deal. The 19-year-old, who has yet to make his debut for Hull FC’s first-team, has already gained experience in the third-tier competition this season with Newcastle Thunder. Harman made six appearances for the north-east outfit and will now have an opportunity with the Greater Manchester-based side, who currently sit in fourth place in the league standings.
