Granville will depart from the North Queensland Cowboys at the conclusion of the season.

Jake Granville is pursuing Super League opportunities.

On Thursday, Super League fans were alerted by the announcement of Jake Granville’s departure from the North Queensland Cowboys. The 35-year-old veteran hooker will end his decade-long stint with the club, as he has not been offered a new contract for the upcoming season.

What caught the most attention in the Cowboys’ announcement were Granville’s comments about his future plans. He expressed his appreciation for his time with the club and his sadness about leaving, but also mentioned his intention to pursue opportunities to finish his career abroad. Granville noted, “I’ve loved every second of my time at the club and I’m sad to be leaving, but I know this is the right time. I am hoping to explore opportunities to finish my career overseas, which I think would be a great experience for our family.”

Naturally, this led many to speculate that a move to Super League might be on the horizon for Granville, and there is some truth to that. Sources have informed Rugby League Live that Granville has been offered to various clubs for the 2025 season in recent weeks.

However, as of now, Granville has not finalized a deal with any club for next season, with his representatives still waiting for an offer.

Granville, who has made over 200 appearances for the Cowboys, is poised to be remembered as one of the club’s greatest players due to his extensive experience and contributions.

Granville was a key member of the Cowboys team that won the NRL title in 2015 and has been a consistent presence for the club, including making 12 appearances this season.

However, the current market for hookers is limited, which could pose a challenge for Granville’s plans to conclude his career overseas. Huddersfield Giants are the only notable team actively seeking a new hooker for next year, as Adam Milner is set to leave at the season’s end. Earlier this year, the Giants were also linked with South Sydney Rabbitohs hooker Damien Cook.
