New York completed a deal with the Pirates on Tuesday to acquire a starting pitcher.

The New York Yankees completed an intriguing trade earlier this season, and now the deal has been fully finalized.

In the trade, New York acquired veteran starter J.T. Brubaker and international signing bonus money from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a player to be named later at the end of March. The Yankees and Pirates completed the deal on Tuesday, with New York sending their No. 20 prospect, Keiner Delgado, to Pittsburgh, as confirmed by the club.

The New York Yankees have officially traded infielder Keiner Delgado to the Pittsburgh Pirates as the player to be named later in the 3/29/24 trade, which saw the Yankees acquire right-handed pitcher J.T. Brubaker.

Delgado, who was signed by the Yankees as an international free agent, has demonstrated his talent by earning All-Star honors in the minor leagues for the past two seasons. His rapid ascent through the Yankees’ farm system elevated him to the position of the team’s No. 20 prospect before being dealt to Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile, Brubaker has yet to make an appearance for the Yankees this season as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The veteran pitcher aims to make his return around the All-Star Break, potentially bolstering New York’s starting rotation depth if he regains full health.

J.T. Brubaker, 30, entered the Major League scene in 2020, making a total of 63 appearances over three seasons with the Pirates, predominantly as a starter. During this span, he posted a 4.99 ERA along with a 324-to-109 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 315 2/3 innings pitched.

While Keiner Delgado held a high ranking as a prospect within the Yankees organization, the team’s infield depth presented challenges for his path to the Major Leagues. The move to Pittsburgh offers Delgado the opportunity for increased playing time and a chance to showcase his talents at the highest level.
