Tom Brady sees former rival QB next to win first Super Bowl

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen encountered Tom Brady just five times before Brady retired after the 2022 season. Despite Allen’s winless record of 0-5 against the seven-time Super Bowl champion, Brady holds the belief that among all the quarterbacks yet to secure a Super Bowl championship, Allen stands out as the most likely candidate to earn his ring first.

Brady expressed his admiration for Josh Allen during an interview on the “DeepCut Podcast,” stating, “I like Josh Allen a lot. I’d pick Josh. I like Josh a lot as a guy, as a leader. But you know, he’s got to get past the Chiefs and that’s hard because Patrick Mahomes is incredible in the way he leads that team.”

Brady’s observation holds weight, as the Kansas City Chiefs consistently pose a significant challenge for the Buffalo Bills in their quest for a Super Bowl appearance. Over the past four years, the Chiefs have thwarted the Bills’ postseason aspirations on three occasions: twice in the AFC divisional round and once in the AFC Championship game. Since Josh Allen took over as the Bills’ starting quarterback in 2018, they hold a 3-4 record against the Chiefs. However, notably, none of these victories occurred during the playoffs, underscoring the Chiefs’ dominance when it matters most.

The rivalry with the Chiefs has become so intense that they were the only team prohibited from acquiring star receiver Stefon Diggs. Instead, Diggs ended up joining the Houston Texans. Throughout his six-year career, Josh Allen has achieved significant milestones, including two Pro Bowl selections, a second-team All-Pro nod, and an appearance in the 2020 AFC Championship game. Unfortunately, the Bills fell short in that matchup, losing 38-24 to the Chiefs, who subsequently suffered a 31-9 defeat at the hands of Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV, where Brady was named MVP.
