South Carolina football 4-star targets Bryce Davis and Cortez Smith have revealed their commitments to the Clemson Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs, respectively.

South Carolina football is entering a pivotal period in the 2024 recruiting calendar, with at least nine recruiting targets set to announce their college decisions between July 20th and August 3rd. Coach Shane Beamer and his staff are well-positioned to secure commitments from some of these prospects.

On Saturday, two of these targets made their choices public. 4-star EDGE Bryce Davis from Greensboro, North Carolina, and 4-star offensive lineman Cortez Smith from Lilburn, Georgia, revealed their commitments.

Davis, who had narrowed his choices to South Carolina, Georgia, Duke, and Clemson, committed to the Clemson Tigers. Despite Georgia being considered the favorite for much of Davis’ recruitment, South Carolina, Clemson, and Duke made strong pushes in recent weeks, with the Tigers ultimately securing the talented defensive lineman.

Smith’s recruitment was more predictable. With finalists including South Carolina, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Miami, Smith had long been seen as leaning towards the in-state Bulldogs. Although Carolina made a significant effort, Smith’s commitment ultimately went to Georgia.

Several major South Carolina football targets, including 4-star safety Lagonza Hayward, 5-star EDGE Jared Smith, 4-star offensive linemen Juan Gaston and Jaylen Gilchrist, 4-star safety Kendall Daniels, and 4-star wide receiver Malik Clark, are set to announce their decisions soon. USC is competing against at least one top program in each recruitment, but there are strong indications that the Gamecocks could secure commitments from a few of these prospects.

Currently, South Carolina’s recruiting class is ranked 26th by On3 and 28th by 247Sports. However, these rankings could significantly improve in the coming weeks if the Gamecocks manage to land some of their top targets.
