There could be departures from Kenilworth Road following relegation this summer.

It appears that Luton Town could have a bustling summer ahead in the transfer window.

After relegating from the Premier League to the Championship following just one season in the top flight, Luton Town is expected to experience significant squad changes in the coming months.

Already, some players are being linked with transfers away from Kenilworth Road. Reports indicate that Aston Villa has reached an agreement to sign Ross Barkley from the Hatters.

Additionally, Elijah Adebayo, who scored ten goals in 27 league games despite facing several injuries, is also drawing interest from other clubs. Everton and Fenerbahce are among those reportedly interested in the 26-year-old, who might be tempted by the prospect of continuing his top-flight career with one of these teams.

Indeed, a transfer to Fenerbahce would offer Elijah Adebayo the opportunity to participate in the Champions League and contend for trophies under the management of Jose Mourinho.

These factors may complicate Luton’s efforts to retain the striker this summer, as they could also face challenges keeping other players in the market.

With this in consideration, we have identified two more players who might be poised to leave Kenilworth Road during the upcoming transfer window.

Teden Mengi

Having arrived from Manchester United just last summer, Teden Mengi had an impressive debut season with Luton Town. The young centre-back became a reliable figure in the Hatters’ defense and despite their relegation, he has attracted interest from other Premier League clubs ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Recent reports suggest that both Fulham and Crystal Palace are keen on signing the 22-year-old to bolster their defensive options. Fulham, having seen Tosin Adarabioyo leave, and Palace, who have released Nathan Ferguson and James Tomkins, see Mengi as a potential addition to strengthen their squads.

Given the financial resources still available to them as Premier League clubs, they are optimistic about affording such a deal. Mengi himself may be enticed by the prospect of a quick return to the Premier League, having proven his capability at that level.

Consequently, it may prove challenging for Luton Town to retain Mengi’s services for the upcoming season.

Alfie Doughty

Alfie Doughty Luton Town

Doughty is another Luton player who had a standout debut season in the Premier League during the 2023/24 campaign.

The 24-year-old performed consistently as an attacking threat from the left wing-back position for the Hatters. Across 37 Premier League appearances under Rob Edwards, he scored two goals and provided eight assists.

His performances have drawn interest from clubs still competing in the top-flight of English football. Crystal Palace is reportedly monitoring Doughty, while Brentford is also rumored to be interested in the former Charlton and Stoke player.

Consequently, Luton may face difficulties retaining Doughty, as he may see an opportunity to compete in the Premier League elsewhere.

However, Luton does have reliable cover in that position, with Amari’i Bell set to return from injury, which could alleviate some of the pressure created by the interest in Doughty.
