Georginio Rutter went from frustration to brilliance in Leeds United’s friendly win over Schalke last weekend under Daniel Farke’s management.
Georginio Rutter’s performances for Leeds United can sometimes be described as going from the sublime to the ridiculous. He returns to Elland Road today for the final pre-season friendly, with fans eager to see the French creator in action once more.
At 22, Rutter was second only to the departing Crysencio Summerville in terms of impact in the final third last season. Summerville, the Championship Player of the Season, contributed to 28 goals, while Rutter scored six and assisted on another 16. Despite his impressive numbers, there is still significant potential for Rutter to improve.
Known for missing some opportunities in front of goal, Rutter’s assists were often outstanding, though he could have created even more with a better first touch or a bit less effort. Daniel Farke witnessed a snapshot of Rutter’s strengths and weaknesses in last weekend’s friendly against Schalke.
Farke commented, “He’s still a young player and has a lot to learn. This game was a great example of that. In the first 20-25 minutes, he wasn’t at his best, losing a few balls and maybe trying too hard.
“He learned that on days when things aren’t working perfectly and the pitch is challenging, it’s best to keep things simple. He did that, and as the game progressed, he gained more confidence.
“In the second half, he was at times unplayable, delivering some outstanding moments. He demonstrated once again how crucial he is for our goals, and I hope this continues.”
