Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made it clear that he intends to keep midfielder Scott McTominay for the current season. LondonWorld reports that McTominay is among the midfielders Tottenham Hotspur is considering, alongside Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.
The 27-year-old, who was the target of an unsuccessful bid from West Ham last summer, has also been linked with Fulham as a possible replacement for Joao Palhinha, who has moved to Bayern Munich.
Last season, McTominay started 27 matches for Manchester United and ended as their joint-third-highest scorer with 10 goals, thanks to his shift into a more advanced role. Remarkably, he outscored more prominent players like Marcus Rashford and Christian Eriksen.
McTominay was also crucial for Scotland, scoring seven goals and helping the team qualify for the Euros in Germany. Despite ongoing transfer speculation linking him with a move away, manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that the 27-year-old will stay with Manchester United.
When asked about McTominay’s future, Ten Hag said: “We have very good players, so there will always be interest from other clubs. When you score 10 goals in a season and also perform very well for Scotland, then there will be interest.
“But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad. As we saw last season, when we had our sixes available, he could play in a more advanced role, and he is a highly valuable player for our team.”
With Pierre-Emile Højbjerg having moved to Marseille and Bryan Gil remaining in North London while the first team travels to Asia for pre-season, Tottenham is expected to seek a new midfielder to bolster their squad.
