Leeds United and Wales midfielder Ethan Ampadu has responded to the team’s loss in the play-off final by sharing a message with supporters on his social media profiles. The former Chelsea player is likely to be appointed as Wales captain for their upcoming matches against Gibraltar and Slovakia this week. However, before focusing on international duties, he took a moment to acknowledge Leeds’ disappointment in the play-off final two Sundays ago.

Ampadu played every match in Leeds’ Championship campaign last season, including the three crucial play-off games and several FA Cup and League Cup fixtures, totaling 54 appearances in his debut season with the club.

Since the beginning of the year, Ampadu also took on the captain’s role, preferred in central defense over club captain Liam Cooper while deputy skipper and center-back Pascal Struijk was sidelined with a groin injury.

The Welshman captained Leeds at Wembley Stadium last month and was visibly upset at the final whistle, pounding the turf in frustration as Southampton celebrated their promotion to the Premier League.

After taking a break from football this past week, Ampadu has returned to social media ahead of rejoining the Wales squad. He addressed last season’s efforts and shared a message with supporters about the upcoming season.

“We will be back,” he wrote. “Gutted to end it like that but massive thank you for all your support this season. See you next season.”

Ampadu, who is under contract with Leeds until the summer of 2027, is expected to continue as the on-field captain next season as the team aims for promotion once again.

The strong words from the Wales international have resonated well with supporters on social media, many of whom responded by expressing their support for the versatile defensive player.
