Iowa Quarterback Cade McNamara Shuts Down ‘Rumors’

The Iowa Hawkeyes were hopeful that starting quarterback Cade McNamara would return for their Week 13 matchup against the Maryland Terrapins, but he has officially been ruled out. This decision sparked rumors that McNamara’s time with the Hawkeyes might be coming to an end. McNamara sustained a concussion during Iowa’s 40-14 victory over Northwestern on October 26 and has been working toward a comeback since. Initially, it was expected he might play against Maryland, but his unexpected absence fueled speculation about his future with the team. Hearing the rumors, McNamara addressed them directly. Ahead of the Week 13 game, he posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter) dismissing any claims that his career with the Hawkeyes was over.

McNamara’s message notes that while he was cleared to return to practice on Sunday, he had an “adverse reaction” that resulted in him not being cleared to play in live game action yet. McNamara cannot travel with the team either, so there are a couple of big reasons right off the bat as to why he cannot play against Maryland.
