Melbourne Storm star player admits he want to depart

Wests Tigers have signed powerhouse centre Justin Olam after he was granted an early release from the Melbourne Storm.

The Papua New Guinea star, who only signed an extension with the Storm 18 months ago, has been hailed as a “world-class” player by Benji Marshall as the rookie coach continues his rebuild at Concord.

Olam has inked a three-year deal with the Tigers after falling out of favour under Craig Bellamy last season.

Prior to his demotion to Queensland Cup, the 30-year-old was a mainstay in Melbourne’s sides which perpetually challenged for the premiership.

Olam made his debut for the Storm in 2018 and went on to make 104 appearances for the club, scoring 46 tries.

“Justin is a world-class player who will bring plenty of experience to our team,” Marshall said.

“He is a proven winner who has played at the highest level.

“His leadership and communication will be very valuable to our club.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Justin and his family to our family at Wests Tigers.”

The move for Olam comes with the news that Shawn Blore will leave the club after being granted an early release to sign with the Melbourne Storm in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Olam’s signing comes just days after Scott Fulton was axed by interim CEO Shane Richardson.

The recruitment guru was reported to have had a fractured relationship with Marshall during his eight-month long tenure.

Despite the drama, Olam’s signing is the joint venture’s second high-profile acquisition in recent weeks.

Jarome Luai will join Marshall and Olam in 2025 after the three-time premiership-winning playmaker decided to leave Penrith and become the Tigers’ new face.
